Joseph Carney
Senior partner and firm founder Joseph Carney received his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Law (Cleveland, Ohio) in 1977, and his L.L.M. (Master of Laws) from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1983. A former special counsel to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Mr. Carney was promoted in only three years to partner at the Cleveland law firm of Calfree, Halter & Griswold before launching Joseph D. Carney & Associates in 1993. A licensed arbitrator, he is admitted to both the Ohio and District of Columbia bars, as well to practice before as the U.S. District Courts, Courts of Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court. Joseph Carney is an active member of the Cleveland, Ohio community, serving as trustee to multiple civic organizations. A noted author and lecturer on securities and business law topics, Mr. Carney is frequently asked to consult on complex securities investigation and litigation, including broker-dealer issues, insurance securities, forensic accounting, and publicly or privately-held companies.
Sean T. Needham
Attorney Sean T. Needham received his Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University in 2002 and completed his Juris Doctorate at The Cleveland State University, Marshall College of Law in 2006. Mr. Needham chiefly works with entrepreneurs, emerging businesses, private equity funds and public companies to help them achieve their goals. He assists his clients in all stages of their businesses, from strategic planning to debt and equity financing, board and governance counseling, tax planning, complex business transactions and other commercial arrangements, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and strategic alliances, corporate succession and divestures. Mr. Needham’s experience with mergers and acquisitions includes assisting middle-market clients in structuring, negotiating and executing complex mergers and acquisitions transactions for both financial and strategic buyers. Mr. Needham is also well versed in assisting in the representation of national broker-dealer firms and their brokers in NASD and NYSE Arbitration (now FINRA) proceedings.
